Hi Reader,
Yesterday was Spa Day for the dogs. Spa day has a good connotation, relaxing, pampering, etc. Doggy Spa Day is anxiety-inducing for me and the dogs. This is Stella, clearly not happy.
If it stresses me out, why do I do it? Well, Chewy, not pictured, gets even more anxious than Stella and me. I finally decided that having the humiliation of a bad haircut from mom was better than all that stress of going to the groomer.
This week is data time. At the first of the month, I look at the past month's data to see how I did and what adjustments I need to make. I thought I would share some of the metrics that I look at and what they tell.
First, let me say that I focus on KPI's, Key Performance Indicators. It might be fun to look at how many people viewed my profile on LinkedIn, but that metric is not an indicator of growth for me.
For LinkedIn, I look at my SSI score monthly. This tells me how I am doing at establishing my brand, finding the right people, engagement, and building relationships. To me, these are indicators of how I am doing at growing my business through LinkedIn. I also look at my posting metrics weekly.
For my website, Google Analytics (GA4): users, top page, booked calls, engagement time, top acquisition channel.
For Organic Traffic, Google Search Console (GSC): Impressions, total clicks, average click-through rate (CTR), average position, top query, and top page.
For email: new subscribers (and which was the highest source of these), unsubscribes, conversion, open rate, and click rate. I actually check these after every email.
For Instagram: Reach, views, content interactions, followers. Instagram posts are now being included in search results, so I am now getting active on this platform too.
All these metrics will give you good information about how your marketing efforts are going, but the MOST IMPORTANT metric is CONVERSIONS. Before I look at anything else, I look at New Clients and Retained Clients. When you work back from here, you can lean in to what is working and stop doing what is not.
