Hi Reader,
Do you remember Hansel & Gretel? They went off galavanting and left a trail of breadcrumbs to find their way back home. The birds ate the breadcrumbs and you know the rest.
Your website is your home, and keywords are a much better alternative to breadcrumbs. Keywords lead people to you. They let search engines know who you are and what you do so they can take a quick link right to you.
How do you pick keywords? Think about your ideal client's pain points and what they might search for on the internet. For example, let's say that one of my keywords is organic digital marketing. If someone searches "what is organic digital marketing?" I want to have content that is the answer to that search.
In general, being specific and thinking of short 2-3 word phrases gives you a better chance of being able to rank for a word.
You can use Moz Keyword Explorer, a free keyword research tool to research up to 3 words/phrases a day. When you type in the word you want to research here is what you want to see in the results:
- High Organic CTR
- Low Difficulty
It will also give you a list of suggested keywords. Look at the ones that have some volume. Are they on your website or is this an opportunity for SEO (Search Engine Optimizing) aka adding them authentically to your existing content on the front and back end?
And then comes my favorite part - create more content using those keywords and related keywords. People are lookingπ so give them what they want, which is not breadcrumbs. It's useful content that leads them to your website π I love a happy ending.
