Hi Reader,
Update your old content! This feels like an easy one... in theory. I know how quickly it can slip to the end of your to-do list. So here is a nudge to get it back to the top of the list.
Why is up-to-date content so important?
- SEO - updated content shows your site is active, valuable, and worth crawling. That way, search engines will cite you in the AI overviews and provide your link in the search results.
- User engagement and experience - we want the latest information on topics that are relevant now, right? Your click-thru rate and time spent on pages will be higher.
- Authority and trust - want to be seen as active and professional? Your content is what is going to showcase that.
- Supports your marketing goals - fresh content leads potential clients through the buyer's journey and supports your social media and email newsletters.
If you have content older than 2 years that is no longer relevant, you need to update it or delete it. Here's an example: I wrote a blog about switching from Universal Google Analytics to GA4 when they were requiring the switch. It's no longer relevant and over a year old, so I unpublished it.
You don't have to do it all at once, but it's something you should be doing routinely - take action:)
